Abstract:
     The closing of the Phyllis Kind Gallery in New York marks the end of
an era for Outsider Art. Over an art career that spanned over 40 years,
Kind had long supported the work of innovative contemporary artists and
was also a pioneering figure in the outsider/self-taught art field. She
was a founding member of Raw Vision's editorial board of directors and had
served as an advisor to the annual Outsider Art Fair in New York since its
inception in 1992. Kind decided to close her gallery after she suffered a
mini-stroke in late 2009 and was unable to return to work there full-time.
