Happy New Year everyone, the Education Subcommittee is working on an
exciting ARLIS/NA Lunchtime Chats schedule for you this winter. I'm
very happy to report that in February, Brian Mathews - author of
"Marketing Today's Academic Library" - will lead discussion on themes
related to his book.
We're giving you advanced notice now, hoping that you will have time to
read a little bit of the book prior to the chat. I can honestly say,
Brian's book is probably the only LIS text I've read cover to cover,
willingly. He outlines some great strategies for outreach and marketing
that could apply to any type of library, not just academic libraries.
Read more about hisbook here:
http://www.alastore.ala.org/detail.aspx?ID=2596. More details coming soon!
In March, Carol Ann Fabian, Director of the Avery Library at Columbia
University, will lead us in chat on a current hot topic "the future of
art indexing".
In April, we'll gear up for the Boston conference with an online
discussion lead by Bryan Loar and members of the conference planning
committee. This chat will specifically address being a "newbie" to
ARLIS/NA and specifically our conferences. Bryan currently serves on
the ARLIS/NA Membership Committee and is the web administrator for
ArLiSNAP: http://arlisnap.org/
Like I said before, more details coming soon! We just wanted to give
you a little preview. You can read transcripts of previous chats on
the ARLIS/NA website: http://www.arlisna.org/chats/index.html
Please feel free to contact me or any other subcommittee member with
your comments or questions.
