The GLIRT no longer exists. I contacted Ray Anne Lockard before posting
about a LGBTQ SIG and she has encouraged me to move forward. From my
understanding, ARLIS no longer forms Round Tables which is why my proposal
is for a SIG. My assistant at the Tom of Finland Foundation (who is f to m
transgender) and myself (who identifies as both "bisexual" and “queer”)
have succeeded in gathering a number of LGBTQ volunteers who are SLIS
students with an interest in art librarianship. Part of my purpose in
proposing this SIG is to encourage them to become student members of ARLIS
NA and prompt them to attend the conference in Boston. From what I
understand, at some point the interest in the Round Table fizzled out. I
don't think this past experience should discourage us students and newer
ARLIS members from giving a LGBTQ SIG a go. If there is any other
information I should have do fill me in, but I think Ray Anne covered most
of it for me. And the process is made pretty clear on the ARLIS NA
website.
Thanks,
Allison
