Hello, collective brain!
Please forgive the cross-posting ... you were all so helpful on my
last query about ILSs, I know I'll get all kinds of great advice from
multiple groups. I am a new librarian in a small, for-profit, liberal
arts college that grants BFAs in interior design. We have a small but
good print collection emphasizing art, architecture and design. I'm
in the process of "adding technology" to the library -- getting a new
ILS, automating circulation, developing a website with nifty web2.0
gadgets, creating online subject guides, etc.
I am currently a member of ALA and my state chapter, and I subscribe
to lots of listservs. I want to become a better
art/architecture/design librarian, find out about new materials and
e-resources, stay on top of technology trends and new tools, and stay
informed about college librarianship in general.
So here are my questions to you all: what other associations should I
join, what conferences should I attend, and what journals should I
read? What blogs and twitter feeds should I follow? Of whom should I
become a fan on Facebook? What else should I be doing? My
professional development budget is generous but not unlimited, so I
would be very appreciative of any quick comments on which activites
you find most useful to you and why.
Thanks!
Lisa
