Hello Everyone,
Like many archives and art institutions, The Tom of Finland Foundation is
struggling to stay afloat in our current economy. Sadly, eight of our
original Tom of Finland pieces were stolen (and eventually recovered) from
an exhibition in Europe. The legal process drained both the Foundation's
and our president's personal accounts of over $25,000. Before we even had
a chance to begin recovering, the economy took it's ill-fated turn and we
steadily began losing many of the private donors that we depend on.
Last week a major plea for financial support went out. This received
enough of a response for us to narrowly escape foreclosure on Tom's House.
Tom's House is home to Tom of Finland's personal archive, thousands of
original erotic artworks (some which are installed directly into the
structure), tens of thousands of erotic & LGBT art books and magazines,
and countless pieces of ephemera relating to the history of queer art and
culture. Tom's House is also quite literally home to myself and the men
who run the Foundation. I'm told we are “safe for another few months”.
Because I'm a full-time student, a volunteer librarian, and I only live in
Tom's House part-time, it is hard for me to do much in terms of
fundraising. Yet I can't help myself, the Foundation and the culture
surrounding it are simply too important. If anyone has ideas, is
interested in collaborating on or facilitating fundraisers, or able to
contribute directly please contact me
