Colleagues,
For the Houston 2005 conference, Convocation was held in Rice University's
concert hall in its Shepherd School of Music and the reception at the Museum of
Fine Arts' Law Building on the Sunday evening of the conference schedule. Both
buildings had heavy performance and exhibition calendars and could only
accommodate our group on a Sunday night after closing to the public (let alone
satisfy our request/need for free space). It would have exploded our budget,
let alone probably not even have been possible due to schedules, to get such
high profile, in-demand spaces on a Friday evening.
If the conference were moved up a day a two in the week, it might be possible to
pursue the combination of desired and free spaces for convocation and its
reception on the opening night of the conference, if that were a Wednesday or
Thursday (but not Friday or Saturday).
