I have a public library patron who is trying to verify specific information about a book/catalog on Paul Gauguin she is hoping to replace.
It was a gift from her husband, who bought it at Macy's while on a trip to Chicago in the 1980's. It was small enough to fit in her purse, she estimates less than 5" X 7" inches. The image on the cover is Gauguin's "Contes Barbares". The book had many color and black & white illustrations, hundreds if of pages, plus a great deal of biographical information. The patron states that this book had illustrations of paintings she has never seen in other books. She thinks it related to an exhibit. That would tie-in to the Chicago Art Institute Gauguin exhibit in Sept. 17-Dec. 11, 1988.
There is little hope of replacing the book unless she can get an ISBN. I have looked at entries on WorldCat and Bookfinder.com but those most like her description do not have any dimensions listed. I have seen ISBN 0894681125 and the format is too large. One item is described as having black end papers...to which she says no.
Has anyone seen this book?
Many thanks,
Judy Adams
