Hello all,
I'm counting on the collective wisdom of ARLIS members, particularly those in the Indianapolis area who might be able to help me out with some research information. I'm trying to verify the birth date for Durr Freedley. According to a June 2006 article in Antiques, he was born in Indianapolis June 21, 1888. Freedley was Curator of Decorative Arts at the Met for 10 years (1911-21) and had been living in Newport at the time of his premature death in 1938. The R.I. obituaries indicate he was born in 1892. I suspect the 1888 date is correct but I would like corroboration from another source. Freedley was buried in Indianapolis at the request of family.
The article from Antiques also referenced his artwork being held in several collections around Indiana. If you know of any publicly accessible sites in Indiana which do own his work, would you let me know. So far as I can determine, Freedley did murals and decorative design work. Your help with this is greatly appreciated. If anyone is able to locate a local obituary and send that to me, I would be very grateful. Please reply to me directly, and again thank you in advance for your help.
