Greetings Everyone,
I am posting this on behalf of a Professor who is working with the
Restoring Ancient Stabiae (RAS) Foundation to study and restore the
ancient Roman seaside town of Stabiae, in Italy. Students from the
University of Maryland have traveled there to do research, and have
worked with officials in Italy to establish the site as historic. The
video may be of interest to folks interested in ancient roman art and
architecture.
The foundation has made an educational DVD "Stabiae: The Last Night."
And is offering it for sale to any interested parties.
The cost of the DVD is $25, including the shipping and is treated like a
donation to the Restoring Ancient Stabiae (RAS) Foundation. The Stabiae
DVD, which is made in Italy, is available in PAL system as well as NTSC
version.
From the back cover: ” Travel back in time 2000 years and explore the
spectacular and luxurious seaside villas of the roman elite. Stabiae is
brought to life through vivid 3-D reconstruction and re-creation of the
resort town in its ancient heyday, as well as images of the site as it
appears today.”
When you play the DVD, the option appears to click on, "Stabiae: The
Last Night" (running time 9.43 min.) which is a 3D virtual
reconstruction of the villas and the history of the excavations or to
click, "Villa San Marco" (running time 17.10 min.), taking you through a
guided tour of the villa in its present condition by
Prof. Thomas Noble Howe, Executive Coordinator of the RAS Foundation.
There is also a "Special Features" and "Photo Gallery" section totaling
4.40 min.
