Dear ARLIS/NA Colleagues,
On behalf of the Professional Status Survey Committee I invite the members
of ARLIS/NA to participate in the VRA Professional Status Survey. We
expect that the survey will provide valuable information on the visual
resources profession. Our last survey of the profession was conducted in
1999, and we believe that it is time to update our understanding of the
visual resources profession as we prepare to celebrate our Silver Jubilee
in 2007. The Professional Status Survey Committee will conduct a special
session at our 2007 Annual Conference in Kansas City to report on the
preliminary findings of the survey. Other publications on the results will
follow.
The survey covers the following broad topics: personal and institutional
data, position qualifications, collections statistics, facilities,
staffing, professional activities, and user services. You should plan on
about 45 minutes to complete the survey, and it will be helpful if you
gather some recent statistics (similar to those included in an annual
report) before you begin. The survey will be available until February 16,
2007. To take the survey go to:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=580572972860. I urge you to participate
and to encourage your colleagues to take the survey as well. The more data
we have, the more useful the results will be. The findings are important
to all of us as benchmarks for institutional use.
I am proud to see this initiative come to fruition. On behalf of the VRA
Executive Board and VRA members, I extend special thanks to the members of
the VRA Professional Status Survey Task Force for their contributions in
developing this survey: co-chairs Christine Hilker (University of Arkansas)
and Margaret N. Webster (Cornell University), Margo Ballantyne (Lewis and
Clark College), Andrew Gessner (Metropolitan Museum of Art), Jeanne M.
Keefe (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), Hildegard Lindschinger (Wilfrid
Laurier University), and Susan Jane Williams (Saskia Ltd./Scholars
Resource, Inc.).
Thank you in advance for your willingness to complete the survey.
Sincerely,
Macie Hall
