ART LIBRARIES SECTION
WORLD LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CONGRESS
73RD IFLA GENERAL CONFERENCE AND COUNCIL
19-23 August 2007, Durban, South Africa.
The program of the Art Libraries Section is planned under the conference’s general theme of "Libraries for the Future: Progress, Development and Partnerships."
The Art Libraries Section is pleased to announce its intention to hold a combined 2-hour session and workshop during the conference. The themes of the Open Session and the Workshop are co-ordinated with the president's theme of Partnerships and also the general IFLA theme.
THEME FOR THE OPEN SESSION:
Developing and documenting contemporary indigenous and minority culture
THEME FOR THE WORKSHOP:
Art library outreach, to include:
--- working with other institutions to increase the relevance of libraries in the modern world.
--- partnerships and outreach to indigenous communities
We suggest focusing on the role of the art libraries and their partners in documenting and preserving threatened cultures.
These themes encompass the philosophical and practical sides of the same issue. With these topics the Art Libraries Section reflects IFLA’s interest in the rich heritage of indigenous cultures. Loss of such heritage is often caused in part by technology, but can also be preserved into the future with the help of technology.
You are invited to take part by submitting a paper for presentation. Alternatively we welcome recommendations of speakers who are well qualified to address any aspect of the topic.
The Proposal for a paper should include the following details:
* Author's name;
* Institution (with address, telephone, facsimile and e-mail);
* Biographical sketch;
* Title of paper;
* Original language version (English, French, German, Spanish, Russian);
* Technical support required (e.g. computer projection, overhead projection, slide projection).
