Angela Lorenz is an American book artist living and working in Bologna, Italy. A Brown University Alumna studying Art and Semiotics in the late 1980's, Angela took many courses at Rhode Island School of Design, furthering her skills in printmaking, letterpress, photography and book arts. Angela spent a year in Bologna, as part of Brown's Study Abroad program and after graduation, returned to Bologna where she has been ever since. In 2002 Angela donated her collection of bookmaking process archives to the RISD Library. Items such as research notes, text edits, sketches, mock-ups and models, test prints, printing plates, false starts and production leftovers comprise this unusual teaching collection.
In this exhibit Angela's artist's books and their process archives will be displayed in two venues, at RISD and Brown. A published catalog, with essays by librarians Marcia Reed of the Getty Research Institute and Stephen Bury of the British Library, among others, will be available for purchase.
