The Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is pleased to offer two NEW Book Arts
Workshops this fall. These workshops are open to the general public.
Multiple Needle Sewn Book with Paper Slipcase
Saturday, September 30 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. $109 (includes $15 supply fee)
Instructor: Bea Nettles
Students will learn the how to sew a book of several sections using an
exposed spine stitch with multiple needles. A custom made paper
slipcase will be created to house your creation. A beautiful selection
of appropriate papers will be provided. A good class for beginners, but
repeat students to Nettles' workshops will learn several new skills.
Organization and Preservation of Your Family Treasures
Saturday, October 28 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. $89
Instructors: Tom Teper and Chris Prom
Offered in a morning and afternoon session, this workshop will discuss
the fundamentals of organizing and preserving your family treasures. The
morning session will focus on the basics of organizing and describing
your family’s personal papers and artifacts. The afternoon session will
focus on the basics of preserving these items, discussing appropriate
storage materials and housing, improving the environment to house your
collections when a perfect environment might not be available and
working with conservators to conserve those extra special pieces.
