In response to some questions we've received about the theme of next
year's conference in Atlanta -- "At the Crossroads: Inside, Outside,
Past, Present, Future..." -- here is a slightly modified version of the
explanation as it was presented in Banff:
Atlanta is indeed a crossroads city and a phoenix that has risen from
its ashes on more than one occasion. Historically, Atlanta was the
nexus of southern railways and trade routes. Entering the latest
century, Atlanta is now a major global hub for transportation, industry,
and culture. The theme of the 2007 ARLIS/NA conference in Atlanta --
"At the Crossroads: Inside, Outside, Past, Present, Future..." --
references Atlanta's history as well as its present role in the
development of the New South. Likewise, it references the many
challenges we face and the complex decisions we must make as information
professionals and library managers in the 21st Century.
The theme is intentionally broad, and designed to allow for the the
diverse programmatic interests of the Society. The 2007 conference
planning committee looks forward to reading many creative and timely
proposals from the membership. Program proposal forms and guidelines are
available at
http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/afa/atl07/proposal-form-guidelines.htm
Deadline for submitting proposals is June 15, 2006. Electronic
submission is preferred.
