Subject: RE: [ARLIS-L] UK = ALA Accredited MLIS programs?
Thanks Matt - well only to say that in my very limited experience that a
UK professional post-graduate Library and Information Science
qualification does not transfer over here (at least at OU!!!) - but I
have to admit that I've never investigated the situation at a
wider/higher level (for example with the ALA). I doubt that such an
agreement exists between UK and US (which always strikes me as ironic
given AACR etc) - but I suspect it has more to do with
immigration/employment laws than anything to do within the Library
community - but I'm willing to be proved wrong!!!
I'm not a member of this list Matt - but feel free to post the above if
you think it would be helpful?

Subject: [ARLIS-L] UK = ALA Accredited MLIS programs?
Hello All,
I know the importance of attending an ALA-accredited program for the
M.L.I.S., and that Canada and the U.S. have a reciprocal agreement on
that point, but is there an equivalency for British "M.L.I.S."
students? If one were to obtain this degree, or its equivalent, in
the U.K., would it be difficult to apply it to positions open in the
U.S. as there seems to be no standard equivalency stated? Any
insights anyone could lend to this question would be very much
appreciated. It is for my daughter who is looking at graduate schools
abroad and would prefer a dual program in art history and
library/information studies.
