The Baltic and Beyond: ARLIS/UK & Ireland Annual Conference Northumbria
University, Newcastle upon Tyne, Wednesday 19th – Friday 21st July 2006

bridges by strengthening international relations; celebrating cultural
diversity and striving for social Inclusion.

The conference opens with an international panel discussion with
representatives from ARLIS Netherlands, ARLIS North America and Die
Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Kunst und Museumsbibliotheken (AKMB) and the
International Federation of Library Associations Art Libraries Section
(IFLA). Other sessions include Artstor; Digital licensing; Expanding
your career horizons; International publishing and book fairs; Local
organisations involved in social inclusion; Virtual learning environments;
Study visits have been arranged to local libraries and resource centres
such as the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and Seven Stories Centre
for Children’s Books.
We will be gathering in Newcastle, once at the leading edge of 19th
Century industrial development, but now in the forefront of technical
innovation, leisure and culture. The city’s quayside is recently
transformed, including the Millennium Bridge spanning the River Tyne to
the Baltic Centre and Gateshead Quays.
Northumbria University centre campus comprises a diverse mix of purpose
built and refurbished buildings close to museums, galleries and other
attractions.
As the conference finishes with lunch on Friday, an optional walking
tour is offered on Friday afternoon for those wishing to stay on.
Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to network with colleagues and
share professional experiences and expertise. We look forward to seeing
you in Newcastle.
