UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO
POSITION AVAILABLE
Position: Director, Bunting Visual Resources Library. Full-time,
twelve-month research faculty; non-tenure track. Those with MLS available
for library faculty position. Professional rank negotiable, appropriate to
qualifications and experience.
Salary: Salary negotiable from $60,000; appropriate to qualifications and
experience.
Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree from an ALA-accredited
Library/Information Science program or international equivalent or masters
degree in art or architectural history. Minimum of 5 years of
progressively significant and relevant experience in an academic visual
resources library or relevant university or special library. Evidence of
management experience in a complex electronic environment. Evidence of a
well-developed vision for leading a visual resources or relevant special
library through a transition from analog to digital collections. Evidence
of effective written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: MLA plus a second advanced degree in a
relevant arts or architecture discipline. A record of published
scholarship, presentations to professional groups, or service in
professional organizations. Familiarity with digital assets management
systems, practices and applications. Familiarity with issues and best
practices regarding copyright as it relates to visual resources in academic
settings. Experience with visual resources cataloging practices including
VRA Core categories and standards, CCO guidelines and interpretations, TGN
and AAT hierarchies and controlled vocabularies, and relational database
principles and development. Experience in project planning and management
of digitizing visual resources for web access. Experience in visual
resources collection development. Experience in supervising library
personnel. Experience in library planning and in financial and facilities
management. Experience in grant writing and fund raising. Knowledge of
developments in higher education, scholarly processes, and issues facing
academic visual resources libraries, particularly in the arts and
architecture fields. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse campus
communities.
