Here's a little challenge: a student is looking for an image of John
Baskerville's hot press, used for finishing paper. We found numerous
sources of information about it, and images of 18th-century presses (mostly
printing).
I checked:
Eighteen Centuries of Papermaking
Papermaking: The History and Technique of an Ancient Craft
Papermaking: Art and Craft
and various reference sources such as Diderot, History of Technology, etc.
Any typography aficionados out there?! Paper people? Thanks very much.
