Dear ARLIS Colleagues,
We at Massachusetts College of Art are considering
embarking on a fundraising project that would involve
commissioning artists books and then garnering
subscriptions to them from our patrons or "Friends of
the Library." We are just in the beginning stages
of researching the feasibility of such a project, but
are envisioning perhaps a 2-tiered proejct whereby we
would have an established book artist create a premium
book and then have a less expensive book available for
smaller donors (perhaps incorporating that book into a
MassArt class on the book arts).
We are curious if any of you have experience with this
kind of fundraising project? We know of Moma's
undertaking, but are also curious if smaller
institutions have done anything similar? Any advice
for us as we try to establish whether such a project
would be worth our time and effort?! Thanks in
advance for any comments, advice, or questions we
should be asking.
Rachel
