November Book Arts Workshops at MGP Studio Arts Gallery:
LONG STITCH BINDING WITH SLIPCASE - Nov. 17
This is a handsome binding which is sewn to its cover with long stitches that
show on the outside of the spine. We will also construct a slipcase to
contain this wonderful book. Tuition: $85 plus $15 materials fee.
ONE PAGE BOOKS - November 16, 4-7pm
One page books are deceptively simple structures that have many applications.
Learn about layout and imposition. They are great for creating a brochure of
your work on the computer, a chapbook, a book of poetry, etc. Bring images or
a real or imaginary journey, and a travel map. Tuition: $50.
THE PROCESS: MAKING AN ARTIST BOOK - November 19 -20
Making a book is a gestation process. Some books come easy, others take
years. Once you have an idea, how do you begin? What is the process of creating
mock-ups? How do you put your ideas into practice? How do you choose and refine
all the elements that will go into a particular book: images, text, structure,
media, colors, specific papers, etc. These all need to be investigated in
order to arrive at the clearest and most concise representation of the theme.
Each book comes with its own set of problems to solve, each unique to that
particular book you are working on. The challenge is to be persistent, and not give
up. Bring your ideas and any book you have been working on and we will
critically review it and help make it a reality. Tuition: $150.
BOOK MENTORING: Open discussion time. Come with your questions and your
books. Oct. 14, 28, Nov. 18, and Dec. 15, from 2pm to 4:30pm at the gallery. Please
call to register.
