Clemson University, South Carolina’s land-grant research university, invites
inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Dean of
Libraries.
Clemson University Libraries seek an innovative, visionary, and experienced
leader. Working with the Libraries' faculty and staff, the Dean will build
upon the commitment to patron-centered service, superior information
delivery, technological advancement, and the Libraries as a dynamic and
desirable place to be. The ideal candidate will possess a strong record of
leadership, excellent communication skills, and knowledge of all Library
operations. He/she is expected to support faculty/staff development and to
foster diversity. The Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic
Affairs and Provost and serves as advocate and spokesperson for the
Libraries on campus, statewide, and nationally. For a complete position

LIBRARIES: The Libraries consist of R.M. Cooper Library, Gunnin
Architectural Library, Special Collections, Records Management, and Remote
Storage. Personnel include 30 professional librarians and 70 classified
staff. The Libraries are one of three key areas addressed in the University

REQUIRED: ALA-accredited MLS; progressively responsible management
experience, including library administration, in an academic or research
library; record of academic and professional achievement warranting tenure
at the rank of associate or full librarian; excellent interpersonal and
oral/written communication skills; evidence of effective fiscal resource
management; demonstrated success in acquiring external funding; knowledge of
emerging technologies and trends in higher education; experience with
assessment and strategic planning; successful human resource management.
Preferred: Doctorate or subject masters; experience with digital library
initiatives; evidence of involvement with statewide consortia; experience
with facilities renovation.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Competitive and negotiable. Faculty status, 12-month
appointment. State retirement, TIAA-CREF or other retirement plans. Various
