Hello. I am working with a group of people who want to start an e
journal in contemporary art. We are wondering if slides or pictures of
original artwork taken by the author of an article belong to the author
or to the holder of copyright for the original image. In other words,
does the author have to obtain copyright clearance from the owner/maker
of the original art work to use his or her own reproduction of the work
in a publication? Also is there a time limitation for images as there
is for printed works? Can images of works of art older than a certain
age be used without obtaining copyright clearance. We are making this
journal in Canada so we would like to know the Canadian law on this.
Thanks.
