Dear ARLIS-list:
The Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution, is pleased to announce
the publication of:
Studies Using Scientific Methods: Pigments in Later Japanese Paintings
by Elisabeth West FitzHugh, John Winter, and Marco Leona
These studies examine the use of indigo and Prussian blue in
nineteenth-century Japanese paintings as identified through various
analytical methods. Issued as Volume One of the Freer Gallery of Art
Occasional Papers, New Series, this title reprises the series initially
launched in 1947 under the stewardship of the museum's director, A. G.
Wenley.
Intended for a specialist readership, this peer-reviewed series publishes
research on Asian art from a variety of perspectives. The titles will range
widely in subject and include monographs, conference proceedings,
multi-author treatments of material or theme, and studies in conservation
and scientific research. The new series presents a new, larger format,
chiefly with black-and-white illustrations but with the possibility of color
plates and the option to include supplementary material-such as images,
tables, graphs, video-in a companion web publication.
To view information about the series, placing an order, author guidelines,
and abstracts, please visit our website at:
http://www.asia.si.edu/visitor/occasionalpapers.htm
This title is also available through EBSCO and possibly other agencies (I
have sent information to Swets, Otto Harrassowitz, and Blackwells Book
Services), as well as directly from the Freer Gallery of Art via the above
mentioned website.
Thank you!
