"After almost 30 years of nurturing and championing Miami's visual arts community, Barbara Young has reached the end of her to-do list, but not the end of a rich and generous legacy she started in 1976 as the county's first Art Mobile librarian.
Young, 62, retries on Friday as art services supervisor of the Miami-Dade Public Library System. ... She already had a degree in art history . Her first library job involved planning shows for the just-acquired Art Mobile, a hard-to-miss van covered with wild zebra stripes and luscious tropical flowers. With a small staff she took the Art Mobile to schools, shopping centers, and branch lbraries. In its busiest year, she had 60,000 visitors. ...
During her tenure, Young also developed the library's art collection * now around 2,000 works * and its extensive files on Miami's growing art scene. ...
In her retirement, Young plans do do lots of reading .... She and her husband, artist Robert Huff, will divide their time between Miami and home in rural western Virginia. ...
