Following the Collection Development Discussion Group meeting held at
ARLIS/NA conference in Houston on Tuesday, April 5 from 8-9:30 AM, we
are putting together a proposal for a workshop on Collection Assessment
for the Banff conference to be held from May 5-9th, 2006. We are
seeking speakers for this workshop. If you would be interested in
speaking or can recommend someone please let us know by the end of the
day Thursday, May 12th. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
Brief description of the workshop content:
We propose that the Collection Assessment Workshop be offered as a four
hour workshop that would include two parts: collection assessment
strategies for beginners, i.e., how to develop a new subject area for
your collections, and how to use assessment to help make weeding,
storage and format decisions. The second part of the workshop would
include demonstrations on the specific collection analysis tools such
as WordCat Collection Analysis, and Library Dynamics' Spectra and
NATCP, followed by the hands-on examination of these tools. The goal of
the workshop is to offer general collection assessment strategies, and
to demonstrate the capabilities of different collection assessment
software tools that could be utilized by both the beginners as well as
more experienced bibliographers and budget decision-makers.
