following position description. HEAD, ARTS AND HUMANITIES SERVICES
Position Summary: Syracuse University Library seeks a creative
individual with outstanding leadership, management, and organizational
skills to direct the Arts and Humanities Services department. The head
of Arts and Humanities Services plans, develops, implements, and
administers programs and services that support the University's
academic
and research activities in the arts and humanities. Reports jointly to
the Associate University Librarian for Research and Educational
Services
(RES) and the Associate University Librarian for Collection Services
(CS). Duties:Lead and manage a staff of five librarians, one
supervisor,
three support staff, and two 0.25 FTE staff in the provision of
access,
reference, instruction, and collection development services for
research-level collections in the arts and humanities. Direct
departmental operations including the reference and circulation desks,
Fine Arts limited access collection, music listening room,
Architecture
Reading Room, and 350,000-piece slide collection. Manage collection
development and allied services related to arts and humanities,
supervise collection duties of arts and humanities selectors, and
serve
as selector for interdisciplinary arts and humanities collections as
assigned. Manage department operations and performance to maximize the
effectiveness and quality of Library services and tasks. Manage
departmental operating budget. Promote teamwork, collaboration, and
mutual understanding of the interrelatedness of Library services,
functions, and objectives. Promote a client service culture that
sustains the preeminence of user-centered goals and values in
departmental activities. Manage change to increase departmental
ability
to adapt and to perform successfully under evolving conditions and
expectations. Lead the department's effort to support organizational
goals through effective communication and management of departmental
contributions to the Library's mission. Contribute to the Library's
visibility among its clients and to clients' understanding of the
Library's mission and goals. Foster positive relations with faculty
through visible and proactive outreach and faculty liaison activities.
Provide leadership in the development and implementation of new
digital
and strategic initiatives. Participate in Library planning and
governance in order to respond to the changing needs of clients. Work
closely with other department heads and administrators on long-term
planning and policy development, and on creative solutions to current
library/information issues. Participate in the delivery of user
support
including reference desk (includes some evening and weekend duty),
consultation, electronic reference services, library instruction, as
needed. Serve on Library and University committees as appropriate.
Qualifications:Required:MLS (ALA accredited) or equivalent combination
of education and experience is required.4 years experience providing
reference services in an academic or research library. 4 years
experience providing collection development services in an academic or
research library.Proven success in supervising, leading, and
evaluating
full-time staff.Academic background in an arts (preferred) or
humanities

professional/scholarly activity Salary and Benefits: Minimum salary:
$52,000. The University's generous benefits package includes an 11%
