ABOUT BANFF
Banff, Alberta is situated in Banff National Park, 80 miles or a 1.5
hour drive via the 4-lane, all-weather Trans Canada Highway from
Calgary, Canada's fifth largest city with a population of 1,000,000.
Alberta shares its southern border with Montana. The altitude of Banff
is 4,540 ft.
Banff, a town of over 7,000 permanent residents, hosts millions of
visitors each year. It is a cosmopolitan center with numerous
restaurants and lounges, a range of cultural institutions and landmarks,
and a variety of outdoor activities close at hand. You can walk
everywhere in Banff. The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is a 15-minute
walk on a paved street from downtown, and there is a frequent local
shuttle bus service from the hotel to downtown. Taxis are also available
and inexpensive as the distances are short. There are numerous great

HOW TO GET TO BANFF
Fly to Calgary International Airport, the 3rd busiest airport in Canada.
There are direct flights to Calgary from many U.S. cities. Five million
visitors come to Banff each year from all over the world. These visitors
are well served by frequent bus service between the Calgary
International Airport and Banff e.g., the Banff Airporter makes 10 such
trips a day, offering door-to-door service to the Fairmont Banff Springs
Hotel for $47 CAN one-way or $88 CAN return fare. Advance reservations

WEATHER AND CLIMATE
In May, the days are usually sunny with an average daytime high of 60
degrees Fahrenheit. Nights are cooler.
FAIRMONT BANFF SPRINGS HOTEL - COSTS
The Banff Conference is one day shorter than the Houston and previous
conferences. Hotel rate is $259 CAN single/double plus $10 service
charge which equals $269 CAN, or, at today’s exchange rate, $218.24 US
single/double, or $109.12 US per person, sharing a room. For exchange

in the hotel, ranging from cafeteria to five star, gourmet dining.
Prices are comparable to those in US hotels of past ARLIS conferences,

Alberta has no sales tax, but there is a 5% hotel tax and 7% GST
(federal Goods & Services Tax). Non-resident, foreign visitors are
eligible for a refund of the GST on short-term accommodation and
purchases over $50. We will provide more detailed information on how to
