The Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage (CFCH) is proud to
announce the launch of its highly anticipated web site, Smithsonian Global
Sound (www.smithsonianglobalsound.org). Smithsonian Global Sound offers
digital downloads of music and sound from its Folkways collection as well as
from other archives around the world. The site has a wealth of educational
content including streaming music, audio samples, web-based radio, and
extensive liner notes. The goal is to encourage local musicians and
traditions around the planet through international recognition, the payment
of royalties, and support for regional archives.
Starting later this spring, subscriptions will available to educational
institutions and libraries around the world.
We hope you will share our enthusiasm and support the site.
