Session 12 on Monday afternoon @ 4 p.m. promises to be interesting and
entertaining. Amy Ciccone and I are researching the history of Art in
Fiction for our book about the same. Along the way, we have discovered
some unique collections and authors dedicated to incorporating art and
art history research into their fiction.
I will be "setting the table" with a brief introduction to our research
in progress and Amy will present a unique collection she discovered
while researching at the Getty Research Center.
One author of meticulously researched art history novels which always
contain a twist (a real painting that is rumored to exist that his
character "finds," etc.) is Nicholas Kilmer. Not only is his
protagonist, Fred Taylor, an art expert and researcher, Fred's love is
Molly, a reference librarian at Boston Public. Between them, they
manage to puzzle out the mystery of these amazing paintings. Of course
there is always a murder or two or more along the way, just to give the
research some urgency!
Nick Kilmer will join us to discuss his research and his life as an
artist, art teacher, art dealer, and author of art in fiction.
Our second guest will be Dean James, whose Houston bookstore, Murder By
the Book, will be the scene of a book signing by Nick Kilmer right
after our session. Dean will have much to tell us about the joys and
travails of running a mystery book store!
Please join us at Session 12 on Monday--you won't be disappointed.
See you in Houston!
