Convocation Ceremony at Rice University
Sunday, April 3, 6:00 - 7:30 PM
Convocation Reception at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Sunday,
Sunday, April 3, 8:00 - 10:30 PM.
(More to follow about this event shortly.)
We'll convene our Convocation Ceremony this year at the Stude Concert
Hall (http://www.ruf.rice.edu/musi/facilities/stude.html) on the campus
of Rice University. One of the true jewels of performing arts centers
in Houston, this facility is known for its fine acoustics and
beautifully crafted interior.
The agenda for this year's Convocation is a full one. We are pleased to
note that The Society will honor the latest recipient of the
Distinguished Service Award. Additionally, The Society will present the
2005 George Wittenborn, Gerd Muehsam, Internship, Melva J. Dwyer and
Robertson Awards, while the Southeast Chapter will mark the 20th
anniversary of its LoPresti Publication Award. Generous funding from
Worldwide Books and H.W. Wilson supports various research awards, which
will be recognized during the ceremonies.
The Society's many travel awards will be presented, including the Cahan,
Karno, Puvill Libros, RLG, Conference Attendance, Diversity, and Student
Travel Awards. One set of awards unique to the Houston conference, the
Getty Latin American Travel Awards will be given to information
professionals from this region. For further information about awards,
please see The Society's website
(http://www.arlisna.org/index__953.html)
The event will be capped off by a presentation from Houston's own, The
Art Guys (http://theartguys.com/homebody.html), a dynamic duo of wit,
whimsy and downright wackiness. Their forays across the fuzzy line
between art and commerce have catapulted them to national attention in
recent years, though they have been well loved in these parts for well
over two decades. The Guise, as they are affectionately know, will wow
us with their latest and greatest, while sharing insights about process
and collaboration.
The Convocation Ceremony is definitely a highpoint of the conference,
and this year's event promises to afford us both the opportunity to
honor and recognize our colleagues and a chance to have some fun.
