You didn't mention it specifically and may have had it in mind. The
pinyin conversion page at CPSO -- http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pinyin/ --
has documents about conventional Chinese place names, classification of
literary authors, and other topics which have relevance beyond
romanization. Looks helpful.
