Head of Acquisitions
Responsible for the acquisition of materials in formats and languages that
support the university's teaching, learning and research mission. The
position reports to the Director of Technical Services but works closely
with the directors of Collections and Research Services and Budget and
Planning to provide effective and efficient services. Develops and
maintains relations with vendors, pursues creative methods for acquiring
materials, analyzes workflow, establishes priorities, and directs the work
of 3 supervisors and 18 staff. In the next 18 months, the NYU Division of
Libraries will install VTLS’s Virtua ILS and III’s Electronic Resources
Management System. As a member of the library faculty, the head of
acquisitions will play a key role in the successful implementation of these
services and will serve on a number of library committees.
Qualifications: Requires a minimum of two years of professional experience
in an acquisitions department; ability to plan, organize, and guide the work
of a professional, administrative and clerical staff in a computer-based
environment; knowledge of the book and serial publishing trade and
familiarity with cataloging and MARC format; bibliographic knowledge of
European languages; familiarity with accounting principles, managing a large
budget, and working with a library and university accounting system;
excellent written and oral communication skills. ALA accredited MLS
required; subject Masters degree required for tenure.
Salary/Benefits: Faculty status, attractive benefits package. Salary
commensurate with experience and background.
