Dear Group,
I am assisting a patron who is researching this topic for a student
competition. The issue involves an elderly woman distantly related to a
famous historical figure, and who owns the last know painted potrait of
this figure. She is a lonely old woman and the director of the museum is
doing all he can to wheedle her into a loan or purchase, including
taking her to dinner regularly and befriending her personally. Issues I
have thought of include:
Confirming provenance and value
Museum ethics
Current storage and care of the work
Potential contractual agreements for loan or purchase
Any additional topics to add? Thanks in advance!
