Dear colleagues,
We are writing to invite you to participate in a user evaluation of a
resource for visual materials available on the Web -- the Museums and
the Online Archive of California (MOAC).
MOAC is a museum and library collaboration, with a number of interests
and concurrent projects. Since 1998, MOAC partners have contributed
content to an online resource of museum, archival, and library
collections, made available freely by the California Digital Library.
The MOAC resource has grown to over 75,000 records and images from 11
California cultural institutions. MOAC partners are also developing
tools for cultural institutions to use in delivering their content on
institutional websites and/or into online union databases, such as those
managed by the California Digital Library.
MOAC partners are currently engaged in a user evaluation of the
structure, contents, and usability of the MOAC resource, delivered via
the California Digital Library. Our MOAC II User Evaluation project is
led by Anne Gilliland of UCLA's Department of Information Studies.
You'll find details about the study on the MOAC II website --
http://www.gseis.ucla.edu/~moac/.
We are examining the needs and behaviors of four constituencies in their
use of digitized collections: information professionals working in
museums, libraries, and archives; academics/researchers in the
humanities and social sciences; undergraduates; and K-12 teachers. We
are sending invitations to participate in the study to *information
professionals* via the ARLIS, MCN, and VRA listservs.
If *you* are interested in participating, we encourage you to first
browse or search the MOAC resource at
http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/moac/, then complete an online
questionnaire. The questionnaire for information professionals is
available at http://www.gseis.ucla.edu/~moac/surveys.html and the
password is chevron18.
Lastly, if you know of other information professionals, or any
researchers or K-12 teachers, that would like to participate in this
study, please email the evaluation team at [log in to unmask]
Your input is greatly needed and highly valued.
