At UCSD we placed these types of volumes in an area we call "Reference
Storage", somewhat out of sight (but in the public stacks), and after
several years, we have begun withdrawing. This helped us gauge if certain
users (i.e. faculty) would have problems with the print vols not being on
the ref shelf. We can now feel quite secure in withdrawing them given the
wealth of stable, bibliographic content now available via the web.
