Art Image Cataloguer
The Visual Resources Collection in the Department of Art and Archaeology
Department at Princeton University seeks an energetic and detail-oriented
individual to:
· Provide original cataloging, classification, and subject indexing of
images in analog and digital formats.
· Research and catalogue image acquisitions, adding records to automated
collections management database.
· Research and establish entries for names, work titles, locations, medium,
sites, etc., so that data will conform to appropriate international
authority files
· Assist faculty, students and outside borrowers in use of collection
(including use of Almagest digital image database).
· Assist in processing of faculty and student slide and digital image
orders; sort and file new and returned slides on a daily basis; check slide
files for errors and space needs; assist in slide mounting and processing
digital images.
· Assist in maintenance and use of audio-visual equipment and project slides
for lectures in absence of designated projectionist.
Requirements
Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language; western European
language strongly preferred. Must be committed to providing high level of
patron service. Must be able to work independently and accurately, using
multiple software applications. Working knowledge of cataloging and
classification tools such as VRA core, CCO, Iconclass, Library of Congress,
and Getty Institute authority files (AAT, ULAN and TGN), etc. Working
knowledge of image management and relational database programs (Access).
Research and organizational skills.
Ability to manage a variety of assignments in a timely fashion.
Education
Minimum Bachelor's degree in art history or closely related field required.
Specialist in EC, Byzantine, and Medieval art preferred. Prefer cataloging
experience in a library or visual resources collection preferred. Candidate
must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. (Position
vacant late August.)
