VISUAL RESOURCES ASSOCIATION,
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER SPRING MEETING
FRIDAY, MAY 14, 2004, 9:00-5:00

We are very pleased to offer our members a full day of
Visual Resource presentations and tours. For our
morning session, the VRA NoCal chapter is sponsoring
the workshop "Managing a Digitization Project," taught
by members, Trudy Levy of Image Integration and Howard
Brainen of Two Cat Digital. This presentation will be
an abbreviated version of the popular workshop offered
at the 2004 VRA conference in Portland. Proceeds from
this event will go towards establishing a travel award
for NRA-NoCal members to attend the 2005 VRA
conference in Miami, FL. In the afternoon, Christine
Bunting, now Head of Special Collections and Archives
at UCSC, will give us a personal tour of Special
Collections, highlighting some of the unique projects
and materials of interest to VRA, including materials
from the library's exceptionally strong photographic
archives. Current exhibit in Special Collections is
the Maidu Creation Myth,

Kathleen Hardin and other Visual Resources staff will
welcome all members interested in VRC tours,
demonstrations, and shoptalk. All you sci-fi fans will
not want to miss "Heinlein's Universe," the Library's
current exhibit of unique items from science fiction
author Robert A Heinlein's archive, featuring original
manuscripts, books, rare artifacts and ephemera,
photographs and awards.

Seating for "Managing a Digitization Project" is
limited to 30 people so RSVP early to not miss out.
Reserve your space now and pay the $10.00 workshop fee
that day with cash or check payable to VRA, Northern
California Chapter.
Lunch will be purchased from the "Lunch Lady" who
provides delicious, fresh salads and sandwiches to the
library and other campus offices. We will be placing
lunch orders at noon on Tuesday, May 11. Please
indicate your lunch choice or choices on the form
below and email back with your RSVP.

Directions to UCSC Campus:
Once you're in Santa Cruz on Route 1 north, follow the
highway as it becomes Mission Street through town.
Then turn right on Bay Street and follow it to the
campus entrance at Bay and High Streets.
Parking on campus can be challenging and requires a
permit. Carpooling is recommended if possible. Parking
enforcement is ever present so it pays to follow all
parking requirements. You may purchase one-day
temporary permits at the Parking Kiosk just inside the
campus main entrance at Bay and High Streets. Cost is
$5.00. A picture ID is required at the time of
purchase. Maps indicating parking lot locations are
available at the Kiosk and the TAPS Sales Office
located in Barn H.
We will be meeting in the McHenry Library conference
room 325 on the third-floor. Special Collections is on
the third-floor and the Visual Resource Collection is
on the first-floor. Seating space is limited in the
conference room to 30 so reserve your place early by
sending back your RSVP form.
