The University Libraries of Notre Dame seek a Preservation Imaging
Librarian to direct and manage their preservation reformatting program. The
preservation reformatting program comprises a preservation microfilming
grant project augmented by several ongoing preservation reformatting
initiatives. The Preservation Imaging Librarian also collaborates on
digital imaging projects throughout the Libraries and provides leadership
with respect to the preservation of digital collections.
The successful candidate may also assist the Preservation Department Head
in directing and administering programs to preserve the University
Libraries' collections, including disaster preparedness and response,
education and outreach, grant writing, and other activities associated with
the overall management of the preservation department.
The Preservation Imaging Librarian participates in faculty and professional
activities at Notre Dame and in relevant professional organizations.
Engages in professional development, scholarship, and service to the
profession, with a commitment to continuing growth and development.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library program or
foreign equivalent. One or more years of specialized preservation
reformatting experience. Knowledge of theory, technical procedures,
standards, and best practices for preservation microfilming and
digitization. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication
skills. Project management skills, supervisory skills, strong initiative
and organizational skills, a commitment to collaborating with library
faculty and staff, and the proven ability to solve problems constructively
and create a positive work environment.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: The position is a two year appointment to the library
faculty. The two year appointment represents phase one of a larger three
phase grant project. The University Libraries have secured NEH funding to
support the first phase and intend re-application to complete the project.
The position will be continued for four additional years pending receipt of
grant awards for phases two and three.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience
and qualifications. Librarians are non-tenure track members of the faculty
and earn 20 days vacation annually. The University offers an excellent

approximately 8,200 undergraduate and 3,100 graduate students pursue a
broad range of studies. The University Libraries house over 2.6 million
volumes within the main Hesburgh Library and seven branch libraries and
currently subscribe to nearly 24,000 serials. The Libraries are led by a
dynamic staff of 198 which includes 48 librarians.
