Dear colleagues,
I'm interested in finding out about other colleges' and universities'
policies in regard to rights and reproductions of institutional archival
materials, including text from materials such as old catalogs and annual
reports.
I am happy to provide text information to researchers free of charge and
only ask (and I mean ask, no contract or anything) that they cite their
source properly. I'm feeling, however, that we should develop a more
thoughtful policy. Occasionally I'll send a rights and reproduction type
agreement, but I don't do that consistently if it's just text as opposed to
images.
Also, when someone writes and says they're an author writing a book, would
you ever ask them for more information as to who they are? Some researchers
have states that they have a publishing contract, but the latest one does
not. Not that it really matters if they're writing a book or not, just
wondering.
I appreciate your help. Thanks very much -
Sara
