I was wondering how small libraries deal with requests for photographing images/text from library books for not-for-profit/ educational use. For instance, do you allow users to take digital snapshots on their own and call it "fair use" (as long as they are using it for class, don't disturb others in the reading room, etc.?) Do any of you have a written policy? What copyright issues arise? We are having more and more requests for this sort of thing, especially when we do not offer a color copier/scanner in-house. However, we are not interested in providing a copy stand or devoted space for the sole purpose of photographing books.
Any suggestions/info. would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Leslie Preston
