It's interesting that Maureen Dawley inquired about Anita Jacobsen. I
had corresponded with her a number of years ago (around 1982) after
having visited the Danish-American archives in Aalborg and met a young
graduate student whose dissertation was on 19th-century Danish American
painters. Ms. Jacobsen, of Danish descent, had written a small
monograph on the Danish-born American ship painter, Antonio Jacobsen (a
number of whose paintings hang in the lovely Griswold Inn in the river
town Essex, Connecticut, which has operated since the the late 1700s and
which has lovely rooms for guests and a great dining room, bar, and
famous Sunday brunch). Ms. Jacobsen was very cordial and has since
become quite successful with her series of price guides to 19th century
bronzes. I did not know she was still publishing, but I know her books
have been important sources for and quite popular among dealers and
collectors. I am not familiar with the Biographical index mentioned,
although I believe she has always acted as a self-publisher and markets
her books herself.
