Position Summary: [PARA]This position serves as the Catalog Librarian of the
Arizona State Museum and independently provides professional direction and
leadership working in coordination with the Head Librarian, and reports to
the Director of the Museum. The incumbent has primary responsibility for the
effective representation of library, archival and documentary material in
all formats in the Museum's online bibliographic database by means of
appropriate cataloging planning and processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: [PARA]* Perform as local system administrator
of Voyager (Endeavor Systems, Inc.), including review of all records added,
development of quality control measures and editing, changing local settings
and running reports. [PARA]* Liaison with ASM Information Systems Section
for problem-solving in the library's Web Voyager with monitoring to ensure
the most effective display and retrieval of bibliographic information.
[PARA]* Provide leadership and coordination of interdepartmental cataloging
of archaeological grey literature and archival materials and oversight of
departmental participation in LARC database. [PARA]* Perform original and
complex copy cataloging and authority control in all formats; establish,
review, and revise cataloging policies and procedures. [PARA]* Manage daily
cataloging workflow. [PARA]* Perform database management or enrichment
functions as required. [PARA]* Collect cataloging statistics and contribute
to department reports. [PARA]* Participate in the development of
departmental policies, procedures, documentation, assessment, and strategic
planning of library services. [PARA]* Supervise, train, and evaluate
graduate interns, student workers, volunteers and Research Associates.
[PARA]* Maintain awareness of current trends in the profession, information
management, bibliographic control, and emerging technologies. [PARA]* Plan
and supervise special projects, and additional projects or duties as
assigned. [PARA]* Research, identify, plan, and implement initiatives to
advance the ASM Library resources and tools within the museum, university
and broader community. [PARA]* May perform original research; develop
knowledge/information management tools and resources. [PARA]* Participate in
providing reference and research assistance. [PARA]* Teach through
bibliographic instruction, graduate internships, reference and research
services, formal course offering, and participation in museum public
programs and exhibit development. [PARA]* Provide service to the museum,
university, museum affiliates, and the profession through committee work,
elected office, and consultations.
Minimum Qualifications: [PARA]* Master's degree from an ALA-accredited
library school. [PARA]* Three years library experience. [PARA]* In-depth
knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures including AACR2R, LCC,
LCSH, USMARC, and OCLC bibliographic formats and rules. [PARA]* Fluency in
Windows environment, MS Access, experience with OCLC, in-depth use of
intergrated library system (Endeavor Voyager preferred.) [PARA]* Some
reference experience.
Preferred Qualifications: [PARA]* Supervisory experience. [PARA]* Record of
involvement in professional associations and/or evidence of publications or
presentations. [PARA]* Understanding of issues in archival management and
bibliographic control. [PARA]* Understanding of emerging technologies and
current and developing trends in information management and bibliographic
control. [PARA]* Demonstrated initiative, organizational and planning
skills. [PARA]* Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with others
within the Museum. [PARA]* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
