OCAD is seeking a librarian with a strong public service orientation and
in-depth knowledge of art/design history and practices for the position of:
Reference &Access Services Librarian (Sessional)
Responsible for the provision of reference and access services in support of
the College's curriculum
Summary of Responsibilities:
Provide reference and access services
Assist the Head in developing innovative reference services
Participate in all areas of reference service, including library
instruction, liaison with faculty and collection development
Coordinate inter-library loan and document delivery services, in
collaboration with Circulation Library Technicians and other Librarians
Represent the OCAD Library within the Ontario Council of University
Libraries consortium, with specific responsibility for Resource Sharing
initiatives on the Scholar's Portal
Develop print and web-based reference and instructional materials, including
content for the Library's web-page, in collaboration with the Head and other
Library staff
Train and schedule staff and student monitors to assist with inter-library
loan and document delivery services
Assist with training and scheduling of staff and student monitors to deliver
reference and instructional services, including orientations and tours
Participate in policy development, the establishment of procedures, and in
the documentation, assessment and planning of library services, including
the collection of statistics
Serve on internal and external committees, as required
Participate in professional activities outside the College
Support the Head & Director in related duties that contribute to the
successful operation of Library & AV Services
Qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS with an undergraduate major in the humanities, or
equivalent
Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in contemporary art & design
2 years of related work experience, preferably in a post-secondary academic
library
In-depth knowledge of print and electronic resources in the humanities and
social sciences
Technologically proficient with a strong public-service orientation
Experience creating web documents, a definite asset
Familiarity with national and international ILL protocols and procedures
Knowledge of emerging technologies related to electronic document delivery
services
Demonstrated strong organizational, presentation, interpersonal and
communication skills, including creativity, problem solving and the ability
to work effectively with faculty, staff and students
Teaching experience or knowledge of instructional methods, as well as
evidence of active contribution to the library profession, considered assets
Must be willing & able to work evening and weekend shifts, as required
Hours of Work: A total of 35 hours per week with evening and weekend shifts
as required. This is a sessional position, 40 weeks per year.
Compensation: $19.05 to $23.81 per hour, plus benefits and 6% vacation pay
