Dear Colleagues -- I've had a request by a faculty member to track down
an image of a "dark-skinned" archangel Gabriel. She remembers it as
medieval/byzantine -- a central figure with large, sweeping wings. I
have checked through Art Index, BHA, Grove Dictionary, Humanities
Index, and books on iconography (except Iconclass which we don't own).
The only image I was able to find was an Ethiopian Gabriel, but this is
not the one she remembers. Please let me know if this image rings a
bell with any of you....thanks.
