OCAD is seeking a library technician with strong customer service skills and
an interest in art and design for the position of:
Library Technician, Slides & Image Archives (Sessional)
Responsible for the maintenance and cataloguing of image & archival
collections.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Catalogue, accession, process and maintain collections, including slides and
digital images
Assist with collection development and sourcing of images, including
searching and verification
Assist with data entry, digital scanning and processing
Assist with planning for digitization and automation of image collections &
services
Maintain circulation and overdue records for image collections
Solicit returns and update patron records
Process records and update finding aids for archival images
Maintain log & appropriate documentation to track the location & usage of
archival images
Check materials in; reshelve/refile and maintain order in image collections,
including image archives
Train and supervise student monitors
Assist patrons in the slide & archival collections
Open and close Library; and work scheduled shifts at the Library's main
Circulation Desk, as required
Assist the Head and Director/Manager in related tasks that contribute to the
successful operation of Library & AV Services
Qualifications:
Library Technician's diploma with an undergraduate degree, or equivalent
Completion or partial completion of an accredited archival program an asset
7 to 12 months of related work experience, preferably in a Slide Library or
Visual Resources Collection
Demonstrated skills in cataloguing, classification, database creation and
management of digital and photographic images
Knowledge of archival principles and practices, including the Rules for
Archival Description
Considerable knowledge of and interest in art & design
Strong computer & keyboarding skills, with proficiency in basic computer
applications
Working knowledge of image scanning and digital image manipulation using
Photoshop, and Epixtech System (Dynix), an asset
Must be motivated, detail-oriented, organized, able to multi-task and meet
deadlines
Must possess strong service orientation and a demonstrated ability to
communicate and collaborate effectively with others
Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend shifts, as required
Hours of Work: A total of 35 hours per week with evening and weekend shifts
as required. This is a sessional position, 40 weeks per year.
Compensation: $14.98 to $18.74 Per Hour, plus benefits and 6% vacation pay
