Readers of this list are no doubt familiar with the famous photograph by Ansel Adams entitled "Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico" (1941). This work of art has been praised far and wide as one of the great landscape photographs of all time. What is now puzzling art historians is the recent discovery of a similar composition set, not in Northern New Mexico, but in downtown Baltimore, Maryland.
"Moonrise, Baltimore" an oil painting by an as yet unidentified artist with the monogram KC, depicts the luminous moon hovering over the skyline of Baltimore as it existed circa 1928. In the foreground are classic examples of the Baltimore rowhouse, while a raven perches on a chimney pot in silhouette in front of the moon which bears an eerie likeness of Edgar Allen Poe. (German art historian Brunehilde Weltschmertz has been able to identify a similar likeness in the Adams photograph).
Through the gracious permission of the owner of this luscious urban landscape (who wishes to maitain anonymity), the DC-MD-VA chapter of the Art Libraries Society has been able to reproduce what must be the seminal work of the Monogramist K.C. on soft, supple yet stylish jerseys that flatter the human form. To underscore the theme of the "Moonrise," saucy lounging shorts feature the dour countenance of Mr. Poe on the wearer's derriere. Both garments are in luxury, 100% cotton dyed coal black with the scene carefully screened in several colors. Quantities are limited and the deadline for ordering looms like the raven. The availabilty of these items will soon be .... "Nevermore"
