Dear ARLIS Colleagues--
Wearing my hat as ARLIS/NA-CAA liaison, I'm
delighted to announce that ARLIS will sponsor
a program session at the upcoming College Art
Association Conference in New York City in 2003.
A description follows--
**************************************************
ARTISTS' BOOKS: A PANEL DISCUSSION ON INSTITUTIONAL
COLLECTING IN THE NEW YORK CITY REGION
Co-chairs and participants: Deirdre E. Lawrence,
Brooklyn Museum of Art and Milan Hughston,
Museum of Modern Art. Other session participants:
Robert Rainwater, New York Public Library,
Jae Jennifer Rossman, Art of the Book Program
at Yale University.
This session will focus on issues related to
building a collection of artists? books within a
museum, public and academic library setting. The
scope of each library collection (BMA, MOMA, NYPL
and Yale?s Art of the Book Program) will be outlined
by the session speakers. The presentations will
outline what types of artists? books are being
collected including specific examples of multiples,
limited editions and unique works. The discussion
will illuminate what types of books are being
created by artists both on a local and international
basis and the decision making process that brings
these books into public collections.
****************************************************
The session is scheduled for Thursday evening,
February 20, 2003, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.
I'm particularly happy that we will have a CAA
session directly showcasing the activities of art
libraries and librarians. Yet the topic is sure
to interest a broad audience of art historians,
studio artists, and museum staff, as well as art
librarians. Please pass the word that this will
be a program worth attending! And if you have
never attended a CAA conference before, perhaps
you'd consider registering...
The deadline for early bird registration is
December 13th. More information is available
at the CAA website:
