Dear Arlisers,
I hope you can help me collect some information on library software that
would be most compatible with the specific needs of the art students.
As many of you may know SIRSI has acquired DRA (our current system) and
will soon stop supporting the product. Our team of selectors, after
formulating demo questions, viewing the demos, and discussing pros and
cons, has just received the formal quotes from a restricted field of four
vendors, namely: SIRSI, Ex-Libris,
Innovative Interfaces Inc., Endeavor.
A final decision is impending with a deadline of December 15.
It has been suggested that the "specialists" among us (Art, Music) try to
contact
colleagues in their field to find out about their individual experience
with any of these systems. I am concerned in particular with the handling
of digital images, slides, and of our very popular collection of mounted
reproductions, that has recently been cataloged using a home concocted
simple bib.
