I thought our membership would be interested to know that US Customs is
reviewing titles and censoring materials purchased in the Middle East by and
for US libraries. Our Middle Eastern Studies librarian reports that each
title must be translated from Arabic to English on invoices and packing
slips, and that Customs agents are creating long delays in getting
shipments. MESA, the Middle Eastern Studies Association, and Congressman
Jim Kolbe recently had to intervene on behalf of University of Arizona's
library to get a shipment released to us.
