Thanks for the heads-up on the article in Art Documentation. I'm embarassed that I hadn't seen it!
I guess I should clarify my earlier question. When building a collection, how do librarians define artist books? How do those of you who collect artist books differentiate between what can go in the regular collection and what should go in the artist book collection? Terrie Wilson writes that a definition should be provided in a collection development policy, but stops short of providing a possible definition. I realize that such a definition may differ among institutions, and that's what I'm interested in finding out. I tend to define artist books in a particular way, and have discovered that my definition doesn't always match with others.
Does that clarify my inquiry, or make it muddier? Probably the latter...
Thanks!
